16 Days of Activisim Against Ageism, Sexism and Violence
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a globally recognised, annual event which commences on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on the 25th of November and runs until the 10th of December, which marks Human Rights Day. It aims to raise awareness and encourage action for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls across the world.
Older women have largely been an invisible cohort and missed by the broader suite of campaigns that seek to prevent gender based violence. That’s why in 2020, the Respecting Seniors Network decided to take action and launched the campaign Respect Older Women – Our Response Starts Now. The campaign called for our community to reflect on respect for older women and actively connect with older women to support their needs and rights to be safe and respected in our community.
Participants are encouraged to log how far they have walked on our virtual community pedometer and to snap a selfie using one of the frames that can be found along many popular walks in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula area.
