CAMPAIGN KMS TALLY

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a globally recognised, annual event which commences on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on the 25th of November and runs until the 10th of December, which marks Human Rights Day. It aims to raise awareness and encourage action for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls across the world.

Older women have largely been an invisible cohort and missed by the broader suite of campaigns that seek to prevent gender based violence.  That’s why in 2020, the Respecting Seniors Network decided to take action and launched the campaign Respect Older Women – Our Response Starts Now. The campaign called for our community to reflect on respect for older women and actively connect with older women to support their needs and rights to be safe and respected in our community.

This year the Respecting Seniors Network is building upon our 2020 campaign to launch…

JOIN OUR WALK

The Network has partnered with Zonta Melbourne South East and Zonta Mornington Peninsula to encourage YOU to get your walking shoes on and aim to walk at least 16 K’s in 16 Days to grow awareness that women of ALL ages are victims of intimate partner violence and to stamp out the ageism, sexism and violence that drives this.

Selfie frames will also be installed along popular walking routes, and digital versions are available for download below, to encourage participants to promote their support on social media.

This year, we will also be promoting messages that seek to empower women of ALL ages and the community as a whole to empower older women who are victims of intimate partner violence to seek support and call out this form of family violence.
